Accredited Play & Creative Arts Therapist & Coach

Nikki graduated from Canterbury Christchurch University, UK, with PGD in Practice Based Play Therapy. She gained a vast amount of experience through a number of private practices, supporting children and youth individually and within therapeutic groups. This experience has led her to advance to an Accredited Play Therapist.

Play therapy is a form of counselling or psychotherapy that uses play to help children communicate their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe environment. This child therapy uses a psychotherapeutic approach primarily used to help children and adolescence between 3 to 16 years to resolve any issues that are blocking them from moving forward and living a happy, healthy and successful life.

She is a full (accredited) member of Play & Creative Arts Therapists (UK), Play Therapy International (PTI) & Play Therapy Hong Kong (PTHK). You can find more details of her license at the Play & Creative Arts Therapists Registry under Nicola Guy (reg. no. 201011432).

She has been living and working with children in Hong Kong since 2005, and specialises in child therapy. She believes that individual therapy has a great deal of benefit, but that when working closely with families and equipping them with the correct strategies, tools and techniques to use at home can have a positive ripple effect within the family. Nikki spends a lot of time ensuring that families feel supported outside of therapy by helping them feel more equipped to manage stress, emotions and behaviour at home.

After working closely with children in Play Therapy, and seeing the benefit from this therapeutic intervention, she decided to go a step further to find a variety of innovative ways to maintain wellness in children and in adults. This led her towards child life coaching and Social + Emotional Intelligence (S+EI) Coaching and enrolling into a Master of Counselling (which finishes 2019).

She understands that life throws challenges at us, which can be hard to manage if we do not have the necessary guidance, knowledge and tools to do so. She understands that we cannot control the external things around us, but what we can do is make a choice to focus on what we can control, which helps us to lead a more positive and healthy life.

Play Therapy has given her tremendous therapeutic knowledge and skills to support children with emotional and behavioral difficulties; and Coaching has given her the skills and tools to not only personally and professionally succeed in life, but to also equip and coach others to do so also.

Nikki specialises in child therapy and has a particular interest with children going through the changes and difficulties that come from experiencing divorce or separation. She helps children process and explore thoughts, feelings and experiences about their parents’ divorce / separation. She provides a safe environment, where relationships are fostered and children are acknowledged, validated and heard. She also supports parents’ during this emotional process.
